OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
The police department has been receiving several complaints regarding vehicles and garbage debris around residences and on city streets. The city has ordinances against these issues and I would like to cover the ordinances to continue on educating the public.
Ordinance 454 Section 21 Method of parking.
1) No person shall stand or park a motor vehicle in a street other than parallel with the edge of the roadway, headed in the direction of lawful traffic movement, and with the curbside wheels of the vehicle within 12 inches of the edge of the curb, except where the street is marked or signed for angle parking.
Persons need to only parallel park on any street unless it is clearly marked for diagonal parking.
Ordinance 454 Section 17 Obstructing Streets
1) No person shall park or leave on a street, including an alley, parking strip, sidewalk or curb, a vehicle part, trailer, box, ware, merchandise of any description, or any other thing that impedes traffic or obstructs the view, except as is allowed by this or other ordinances of the city.
This would refer to any boats, camp trailers, motorhomes or tow trailers for pickups are not to be left parked on right-of-ways for all streets. This is also for any supplies, such as wood piles, leaves or debris. Also residents are to keep the alleyway clean behind their home to allow free flow of traffic. You can be cited for any of the above mentioned ordinances and the police request you use this time as an education process.
Also the police department is working on a citizen code enforcement advisory committee. The committee would be educated on city ordinances and go to residences and explain the ordinance and if the owner fails to comply with the ordinance the information would be turned over to the police for enforcement action. We are looking for about 5 volunteers for the committee and if you are interested please call and leave your name and phone number for contact. If you have any questions regarding ordinances please call and ask.
