The police department has been handling several animal complaints throughout the city. I would like to address some of the issues by outlining City Ordinances that will be enforced regarding the animal complaints.
City Ordinance 443: An ordinance providing for the regulation of dogs, prohibiting activities,
Section M: Running at large; means while the dog is off of or outside of the premises belonging to the owner of such dog, and not in the company of and under the control of the owner, also includes a dog unconfined in accordance with the requirements set forth in subsection "P".
Section 3: License required. All dogs in the city shall be licensed unless specifically exempt under this ordinance. Initial licensing shall be accomplished within 30 days of the date of acquiring a dog by a city resident or moving a dog into the city. License shall be renewed annually on or before the first day of each year. No license shall be required of a dog less than 6 months old.
Section 6.5: Dogs Running at Large; any dog running at large within the corporate limits of the city is hereby declared to be a public nuisance. It is unlawful for any owner or keeper of a dog to permit it to run at large. Proof that a dognot on a leash or in the vehicle of its owner or keeper is prima facie evidence of a violation.
Violations of this section are as follows: 1st Offense $25 and increases per offense to a limit of $500 for each animal.
I would like to encourage citizens of Pilot Rock to check their fences and gates to ensure their animals are safe and can not be out running in the neighborhoods. I would also encourage citizens out walking with their dogs to ensure they are on a leash, as we will be giving warning for the first contact and then be issuing citations for additional offenses.
Any questions please contact me.
